Cabral's lyrics for Portrait of My\r\nHeart tackle love, intimacy, anxiety, and alienation, trading the allegorical approach\r\nof much of her previous work for something pointed into her human heart. The\r\nalbum's thematic forthrightness is echoed in it's arrangements, making it the\r\nsharpest, most direct SPELLLING album to date. From the dark minimalism of\r\nher earliest music to the lavishly orchestrated prog-pop of 2021's The Turning\r\nWheel to this newly energetic expression of her creative spirit, Cabral has proved\r\nagain and again that SPELLLING can be whatever she needs it to be.\r\nThe title track, with it's propulsive drum groove and anthemic chorus of \"I don't\r\nbelong here,\" is the most potent embodiment of the album's turn toward emotional directness. Once the main melody emerged, Cabral used the song as a tool\r\nto process her anxiety as a performer and opted for a tighter, more rock-oriented\r\ncomposition. This transformation mirrors the album's broader shift toward energy\r\nand immediacy, driven by the core band of Wyatt Overson (guitar), Patrick Shelley (drums), and Giulio Xavier Cetto (bass), whose collaboration uncovers new\r\ncontours of the SPELLLING sound. Cabral still writes and demos in isolation, but\r\npresenting the songs for Portrait of My Heart to her bandmates helped her discover\r\ntheir eventual lively, organic forms. So did working with a trio of producers-The\r\nTurning Wheel mixing engineer Drew Vandenberg, SZA collaborator Rob Bisel,\r\nand Yves Tumor producer Psymun.\r\nKey guest contributions further shape the album. Chaz Bear (Toro y Moi) delivers\r\nSPELLLING's first duet on \"Mount Analogue,\" Turnstile guitarist Pat McCrory\r\nturns Cabral's original piano demo for \"Alibi\" into the crunchy, riff-y version that\r\nappears on the record, while Zulu's Braxton Marcellous gives \"Drain\" it's sludgy\r\nheft. These parts aren't just incorporated seamlessly into the album; they feel like\r\nan integral part of it's universe.\r\nUltimately, though, Portrait of My Heart is nobody's record but Cabral's. She fearlessly draws the curtain back on parts of herself that she's never included\r\nin SPELLLING before-her feelings of being an outsider, her overly guarded\r\nnature, the way she can throw herself recklessly into intimate relationships\r\nand then cool on them just as quickly. \"It's very much an open diary of all those\r\nsensations,\" she says.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Alliance Entertainment","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":54875925643610,"sku":"7843563783588","price":8.05,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0977\/2692\/3098\/files\/4402107-3321585.jpg?v=1790666303","url":"https:\/\/groovedeck.shop\/products\/spellling-portrait-of-my-heart-vinyl","provider":"My Store","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
